Yummy and sweet. These are delicious - the best shredded wheat cereal* I've tried yet. Very good - and good for you. These all natural bites are softer than other shredded wheat, are high in fiber and iron and they pack a full day's worth of whole grains in one serving. Oddly enough, this frosted version only has 2 more grams of sugar than Kashi's non-frosted shredded wheat varieties, and the same as Arrowhead Mills' version.
|
* This cereal is NOT vegetarian. The gelatin used in it is derived from pork.

Not surprisingly, this veggie burger kicks major buns. Why it's so hard to find Wildwood products, I really can't figure out, as they really know how to make some seriously high quality food. This has a rich, spicy, legit southwestern flavor, not to mention the fact that it is moist and not dry at all (which is a very rare find in the world of veggie burgers). Of course all that comes at a cost: this burger is the highest in calories and fat of any veggie burger I've reviewed on Calorista. I'd say this is a great transitional burger for those that are just trying out the veggie scene, but if you are a little more acclimated to veggie options, I'd pick a lower fat option like Gardenburger's southwestern burger. That being said, this is ridiculously high in iron, so it is a great way to make sure you get enough, especially if you are a vegetarian and struggle with getting your daily allowance.

A low carb muffin? Isn't that the same as a "petite sumo-wrestler"? I didn't think it was physically possible...and it turns out that it isn't, really. The low carb here refers to the 6 grams of "net carbs", not actual carbs. Net carbs are the carbs that impact your blood glucose level, so Vitalicious has taken the 23 grams of actual carbs and subtracted the 6 grams of fiber and 11 grams of sugar alcohols (neither of which have as much of an impact on blood sugar levels) to arrive at the 6 grams of net carbs. The problem with this is that some other muffins have fiber and sugar alcohols too, so when comparing muffin to muffin, it's best to just count the total carbs that every manufacturer lists. Phew, all that being said, I LOVE these all natural muffins! They really ARE velvety chocolate with rich chocolate chips, not to mention that they come LOADED with nutrients (fiber, protein, potassium, calcium, Vitamins A,C,D and iron)! Oh yeah, and they are very low in calories with the same muffa-licious taste of a regular muffin.
