| This is a different style review, but I wanted to highlight these frozen cherries because I volunteered to make smoothies at a community organic garden launch over the weekend, and many people were shocked to see that there are frozen cherries available (and frozen bananas as well). One cup (21 cherries) or one serving contains about 90 calories and is a good source of vitamin C and fiber, both of which may help lower the level of bad cholesterol in the bloodstream. Several studies have also linked cherry consumption with the alleviation of inflammation, arthritic pain and gout, making cherries a superfood for your joints. One study from researchers at the US Agricultural Research Service found that the consumption of about 45 bing sweet cherries led to a drop in women's plasma urate which accumulates in joints during a gout attack. The study also revealed a drop in two key markers of inflammation, nitric oxide and C-reactive protein. (I took this information from the Dole website). |
