| I'm convinced that all of those out there who say they "hate tofu" would change their minds after trying WildWood. Recently I've decided to get much more serious about eating tofu, and the other brands were not motivating me to cook with it. Now that I've found this, I'm using it for everything - mixed in with Thai dishes, pasta, sauces and even some desserts. There is a HUGE difference in texture and flavor with this "super firm" style compared to Nasoya's "extra firm" style. It is richer, thicker and not one bit squishy or weird. Plus it is so fresh...possibly because the company uses live, sprouted soy. The company also claims it is much more healthful because the live, sprouted soy improves the absorption of nutrients and is more easily digested. If you want to eat more tofu but are struggling, give this healthful and delicious brand a try. |

Nasoya has a new vitamin enhanced tofu line that is meant to help supplement a vegetarian diet with the nutrients it may be lacking, such as calcium, iron, B6, B12 and D.
The Taste: If you've had any Nasoya tofu before, this tastes just the same. Nasoya is not as flavorful as Wildwood organic tofu, which is made from live sprouted soy. Wildwood also has a much firmer "extra firm" variety, which I prefer. Nasoya is a little softer than I like, however, it is widely available and still very high quality.
The Nutrition: In general, tofu is a fantastic way to add protein and iron to your dishes without adding cholesterol, sodium or saturated fat. Obviously, this one has more nutrition than tofu from many other brands because it is supplemented. The confusing part is that Tofu Plus does not actually have as much Vitamin A, B6, B12 and D as Nasoya's lite tofu. The iron amounts are exactly the same, and the calcium is the only thing that is higher in Tofu Plus. However, Nasoya lite only comes in silken and firm (and not extra firm), so you may want to switch to Tofu Plus when you need extra firm. I don't really understand why the lite variety is higher in nutrients, and Nasoya’s website doesn't address it. If you don’t mind softer tofu, get the lite with fewer calories and more nutrients.
