| Hmm...not sure what to say on this one. The good news is that it is VERY moist, especially for a veggie option. It is also really, really good for you...packed with protein, potassium, iron, vitamins, and minerals, not to mention that it is cholesterol free and virtually fat free. However, it is quite a bit different than other meat substitutes I have tried. The fact that it is vegan is probably why. It tastes like it is made from mushrooms, although there are none in the ingredients, so I don't know why it tastes like that. If you are a fan of mushrooms, you will probably like this substitute more than I did. I have to admit though, once it was mixed in with pasta and sauce, I thought it was pretty good. |

| Besides being high in sodium, this is pretty nutritionally amazing. Super low in calories (120 per skewer), high in fiber, protein, iron, calcium and no cholesterol - a score for "beef" skewers. It is also very meat-like, maybe the most beef-like veggie substitute I've tried yet. One thing I will warn you of...the package says to add your favorite BBQ sauce after these are grilled, and that is a necessity. I tried these without adding any (since they do come with sauce), but the sauce cooks all the way into the "beef" and tastes a little bland if you don't add more. I actually dipped these in balsamic glaze (to keep the added sauce salt free, lower calorie and more healthful), and although it sounds a little weird, it tasted really good! |
